Dan’s life reflects his love of music and aviation. He is from a family of teachers and musicians. He grew up in Indiana and Florida, loving aviation and reading Lindbergh and Guy Murchie. In his teens, he cast his lot with music and became a professional trumpet player and teacher. After college, the U. S. Air Force Band and grad school, he moved to Chattanooga to play with the Chattanooga Symphony, and performed with them for 30 seasons.
Introduced again to general aviation in his 30s, he became a pilot and flight instructor, and has flown and instructed professionally since 1985.
He holds Commercial ASMEL, Glider, Flight Instructor ASMEL & Instrument Airplane certificates. He is a founding member of the Jericho Brass, Chattanooga’s Traditional Brass Band, plays baritone and helps conduct the band. He also composes and arranges music for the band.
